Indianapolis Raceway Park

Sunday, April 3rd
The opening race in the I.R.P., VP Racing Fuels ET Bracket Series is in the books.

The day started off rather cold, but with the track crew running the jet dryer and some help from the sunshine, time trials got started off a little late, but the track was in great condition.

At the end of the day, Mike Ammerman, of Indianapolis, in his Big Block Chevy powered '78 Mustang II took the Super Pro win over Gary May, of Indianapolis in his '83 Malibu wagon, which is sporting new paint and rear chassis work. Nice way to break a new combination in, as Gary was also deep into the rounds in Pro class as well.

In the final, Ammerman took a starting line advantage to the stripe for the win when Gary ran under his dial-in holding off the hard charging Ammerman car.

Ammerman triggered the tree with an .011 reaction time, and ran 5.417 on his 5.37 dial in, while May left with an .022 reaction and ran 6.747 on his 6.75 dial in.

In Pro class action, Danny Whisman of Indianapolis, in his '72 Demon took the win over Mike Smith in his '76 Firebird, running under his dial trying to catch the starting line advantage that Whisman was holding.

In Sportman class, Bud Simmons of Shelbyville in his '63 Ford Galaxy took the win over Randy Dobbs of Indianapolis in his '64 Chevy II.

Bud ran dead on his 9.72 dial in with a 2, while Randy broke out, with a very close reaction time advantage.

Super Pro Bike class winner was Pop Arthurs on his Kawasaki over a red lighting Scott Forehand on his Suzuki.

Junior Dragster winner Jordan Eaker took the win with a reaction time advantage over Ashley Tidrick.

In the non-points categories, it was Bryan Yeisley taking the win over Josh Elder in the Trophy class, and Jeremy Mitchell taking the win in the 1/4 Mile race over Troy Galbraith.

Next week will feature two days of ET Bracket Points racing action, April 9th and 10th, gates open at Noon on Saturday, time trials at 2:00 P.M. Sunday will kick off with a 7:00 A.M. gate and 9:00 A.M. time trial schedule. Of course, with your 2 day entry, overnight camping is welcomed at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
